π₯ A BBQ scrubber just taught us something about Shopping Around in America. πΊπΈ
Hey all, Sam, your neighborhood champion, signing in! ππ We watched Destin from YouTube's @SmarterEveryDay go down an incredible four-year rabbit hole trying to answer what sounds like a pretty simple question: Can we make a better, safer BBQ scrubber β and make it in America? πΊπΈ Turns out, there's a LOT behind that question. The journey started with a problem many BBQ lovers probably don't think about: the tiny metal bristles on conventional grill brushes can break loose. And that's not just annoying. It can be a serious health hazard. So Destin went looking for a better way. That journey eventually led him to John Youngblood and JJGeorge, an Alabama BBQ company, and to the development of the Smarter Scrubber using welded stainless-steel chainmail. Then came another challenge: πΊπΈ Could they actually make it 100% in America? That's where this became much more than a BBQ video. It became a story about manufacturing. Suppliers. Machines. Know-how. Entrepreneurs. Cost. Quality. Global value chains. And all the invisible people and businesses behind something as ordinary as the tool you use to clean your grill. We learned something watching it. So we changed something. π₯ We went back to The Smoke Ring, our BBQ Tribe Collection on GotSnag. We reviewed all the scrubbers we'd curated. We removed the problematic wire-bristle designs. And our scrubber selection now focuses on chainmail alternatives. But we didn't stop there. Because that's the whole idea behind Shopping Around. We followed the trail. And that's how we discovered the wider world of JJGeorge and their BBQ products. So we brought them into The Smoke Ring, too. And we'd like to invite JJGeorge to go one step further: π Come curate your own JJGeorge Store Circle on GotSnag. Tell people what you make. Show us what's special. Explain where it comes from. Share the knowledge behind the products. And let shoppers decide. Because we're building GotSnag to be something we think American shopping needs: πΊπΈ A neutral place to SHOP AROUND. Not another retailer. Not another marketplace where visibility goes to whoever wins the auction for the next keyword. Not a store pushing its own inventory. A discovery layer for the WHOLE market: Amazon can be there. Walmart can be there. The big brands can be there. But so can an independent BBQ company making something interesting in Alabama. So can a Main Street store. So can a local price tag. And so can all the great Made in USA πΊπΈ manufacturers, producers, makers and tinkerers. That's the point. We don't think Shopping Around means telling people what to buy. We think it means giving people a better view of what's actually out there: Online. Local. Big. Small. Global. Made in America. πΊπΈ Then letting you explore, compare, learn and make up your own mind. That's the neutral Shop Around platform we're building for the U.S. market. And today, our Tribe called The Smoke Ring got smarter. π₯ Not because an algorithm suddenly knew better. Because people did. Destin investigated something. With John, they built something. We learned from them. And our curation changed. That's human collective intelligence at work and that's how our Collections get smarter. π§ π Much respect to Destin, John Youngblood and everyone involved in the Smarter Scrubber journey. You taught us something. So we changed what we curate. π₯ Watch the Smarter Every Day story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZTGwcHQfLY π₯ Then Shop Around The Smoke Ring. π And JJGeorge, your Store Circle is waiting for you.
